Key Aspects of Ohio Dog Bite Laws:

Strict Liability: Under Ohio law, specifically Ohio Revised Code § 955.28, dog owners are strictly liable for injuries caused by their dogs. This means that if a dog bites someone, the owner is automatically responsible for any resulting injuries, regardless of whether the dog had a history of aggression or the owner took reasonable precautions.

Liability Conditions: The law applies to injuries that occur in both public and private spaces, as long as the victim was lawfully present. This includes postal workers, invited guests, and service employees.

Owner Responsibilities: Dog owners must ensure their pets do not pose a threat to others. This includes taking precautions such as proper fencing and supervision.

Understanding these laws is crucial for both dog owners and potential victims, as it helps navigate the legal landscape following a dog bite incident in Ohio. If you have further questions or need legal assistance, consulting with a lawyer experienced in animal law is advisable.
